We design our scheduled group tours so that you'll have some free time to do your own thing. Not only do we schedule free time, but you can venture off on your own at any point during the tour. Just make sure not to miss the departure time for the next journey should you decide to venture solo! At any point during the tour, you can decide to have your own afternoon free, just make sure you inform the group leader of your plans to ensure proper coordination.

A riad is a traditional Moroccan house or palace characterized by an interior courtyard or garden, typically located within the medina, the old walled city. The building is designed with rooms and common areas arranged around this central open-air courtyard, which often includes features like lush greenery, fountains, or small pools. This inward-facing design promotes privacy and tranquility, making riads distinct from modern hotels. Originally the homes of wealthy merchants or courtiers, many riads today have been converted into guesthouses or boutique accommodations offering a cozy, culturally immersive experience with personalized service.

Absolutely. Most of our private tours include a mix of Riads and hotels. It is important to keep in mind that Riads are much smaller than a regular hotel and therefore an early booking is strongly recommended. Riads sell out very quickly and if we are unable to secure availability, we will offer the next available Riad of the same quality standard if available.

No. Many women in Morocco dress just like they do in the States. You can wear anything you want. The only exception is on tours of the Mosques. To enter you will need to dress conservatively as you would to enter a church here—no shorts, tank tops, etc. As in any country, you should use discretion with your attire if you want to avoid unwanted attention.

Comfortable, modest clothing (covering shoulders and knees), walking shoes, sunscreen, hat, camera, and any personal medications. We send a detailed packing list once you book. Morocco's dress code is relaxed but modest - no special clothing required.

No vaccinations are required. The tap water in the cities is safe to drink, but mineral water is recommended.

If you wish to use electric equipment purchased in the United States, you will need a converter and adapter. (Standard outlets are 220V, 50HZ though 110V may be found in older constructions.)

Although not required, we recommend that our tour participants purchase a standard travel insurance policy through our partnership with Travelex Insurance Services. This is an affordable and comprehensive travel protection program that covers you for unexpected events that could cause you to cancel or interrupt your vacation, unexpected delays, medical assistance, loss of or damage to baggage.

Any bank in Morocco will be more than happy to exchange your US and CAD dollars, as will most of the hotels you'll stay in. The Moroccan currency is the Dirham (DH).

In Morocco it is custom to barter for purchases. We've found that some people enjoy this intrinsic part of Moroccan way of life while others may not. The first step in this process is for you to explore what many merchants have to offer before grabbing the first rug that you like. Spend some time touring the medina and compare prices in order to make an informed decision. Many people have asked whether they should allow their tour guides to barter for them. Our tour guides are government certified and although you could be better off letting your tour guide barter for you knowing that he or she will earn a commission on the sale price, we recommend that you do not involve them in this process. Typically, the vast majority of our travelers handles this process by themselves or seek assistance from a friend or from another tour member.
