Hri Souani

Built to supply Moulay Ismail's vast imperial city, the Heri es-Souani are the sultan's colossal granaries and stables — a cathedral-like sweep of thick earthen walls and arches designed to keep grain cool and water flowing. You'll wander the vaulted chambers and the reflecting basin beyond, marvelling at seventeenth-century engineering. Cool, cavernous and atmospheric, it's Meknes's most impressive monument.
