Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail

One of the few royal shrines in Morocco where non-Muslim visitors are permitted to enter and stand in the presence of a sultan's tomb.

The mausoleum holds the remains of Moulay Ismail, the sultan who made Meknes an imperial capital in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Successive courtyards lead you through tilework, carved stucco and cedarwood ceilings before arriving at the inner chamber — a place of quiet reverence that feels entirely removed from the city outside.
