Getting thereFlying from Ottawa (YOW) to Morocco
YOW has no nonstop service to Morocco, but its proximity to Montréal makes the connection unusually painless. Expect 11 to 14 hours door to door — several hours faster than Toronto, and dramatically faster than anywhere west of Winnipeg.
- Via Montréal (YUL): Air Canada YOW → YUL, then Royal Air Maroc YUL → CMN nonstop, around 7 hours in the air — approximately 11–13 hours total and the routing we recommend to most Ottawa clients
- Via Paris (CDG): Air Canada or Air France YOW connections to CDG, then Air France or Royal Air Maroc onward to Casablanca — approximately 12–14 hours total
- Via Toronto (YYZ): Air Canada YOW → YYZ, then a one-stop European connection — usually slower than routing through Montréal, but useful for award availability
- Via Frankfurt (FRA) or Amsterdam (AMS): connect in Toronto or Montréal first, then Lufthansa or KLM onward — approximately 13–15 hours total

One practical note: if you take an early YOW–YUL hop and the Casablanca leg departs the same evening, you land in Morocco the following morning. We treat that first day as arrival and recovery, never as a touring day, with the first night in a Casablanca riad or a hotel in Rabat depending on where your route begins.

Rabat, not Marrakech, is Morocco's capital — a coastal city of ministries, gardens and the unfinished Hassan Tower, and one of the most underrated stops in the country. Most of our itineraries pass through it on the way north to Fes, and Ottawa clients tend to appreciate it more than most. If you want a longer stay there, say so and we will build it in.

Bilingual planning and guiding
French is widely spoken across Morocco, which makes it an unusually comfortable destination for francophone travellers. We plan in French or English, and can assign French-speaking licensed guides in every city on your route. Ask when you request your proposal.

OHIP will not cover you abroad
Ontario health coverage provides essentially nothing outside Canada. Private travel insurance with at least CA$2 million in emergency medical is strongly recommended. Buy within 72 hours of paying your tour deposit so pre-existing-condition stability clauses begin working in your favour.

Eastern Time to Morocco
Morocco is 4 to 5 hours ahead of Eastern Time depending on the season — one of the gentlest time changes available on a long-haul trip, and a genuine argument for Morocco over Southeast Asia if jet lag is a concern. Morocco does not follow North American daylight saving the same way Ontario does, so the exact gap shifts by an hour at certain points in the year.

Planning around fixed leave
A large share of Ottawa travellers work to fixed leave windows — March break, the summer shutdown, the end of the fiscal year. Those are also Morocco's busiest weeks. If your dates are immovable, come to us early: spring departures in particular book out four to six months ahead, and the riads worth staying in are the first to go.

What is the fastest way to get to Morocco from Ottawa?＋
Connect through Montréal and take Royal Air Maroc's nonstop YUL–Casablanca service, about 7 hours in the air. Total door-to-door time is usually 11 to 13 hours, which makes Ottawa the fastest Canadian city to reach Morocco from after Montréal itself. You also avoid European customs entirely.
Do Canadians need a visa for Morocco?＋
No. Canadian passport holders enter visa-free for stays up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry, and there is no advance paperwork to file.

Is Morocco safe for Canadian travellers?＋
Yes. Morocco is one of the most politically stable countries in North Africa and a longstanding partner of Canada. Global Affairs Canada maintains a standard "exercise normal precautions" advisory — the same level as most of Europe. On a private tour with a vetted driver and licensed guides, the most common issue is petty pickpocketing in crowded medinas, exactly as in any major European city.
How far in advance should I book?＋
For spring departures (March to May), four to six months ahead. For winter Sahara trips, three to four months is usually fine. If your dates are fixed to a leave window or school break, come to us earlier rather than later — those weeks are Morocco's busiest and the best riads go first.
